What Our Visitors Say
“Thanks again for allowing us to stay at your site. I believe this is our 8th time staying at the Washington Seminar Center!  It’s always been such a wonderful experience staying at your church. It’s nice because the students have more together time than they would at a regular hotel. ”

Hunger Banquet & Dollar Meal

While often done as a local awareness raising and fundraising event, a precursor to this can be a group experience of the meal itself. With the group organizers preparing the food and group members selecting the tickets that will determine their dinner, this activity can be a shared experience that will help people understand hunger in the world. Following the dinner by a time of discussion about how people are feeling about their meal and including information from the guide, this activity can help group members think about their own feelings and experiences of hunger and food inequity. Another creative and learning meal experience is a dollar meal wherein each participant is given a dollar to purchase their meal. While on the surface this appears to be an exercise in thrift and money, it is about working together as a better meal will be had if the money is pooled. Having a discussion about the exercise after the meal is essential.

Another option for the entire group for the entire trip is collectively can you meet the SNAP Challenge? Is eating on $4.50 per person per day possible? Learn more at Feeding America.
